Update of the Program
« on: February 08, 2019, 03:09:41 AM »
There's been a lot going on over the past couple weeks. Yesterday was the 2d NLI day, and as expected Cooper and Barnes signed, a 4* and  3* set of LBs. We've had a nice recruiting year, in terms of quality players. Probably the best since Zook. And we still might add a couple more players, in particular a juco WR, DB and one more OL. We had some of our future transfer or be dismissed this past 6 months, guys like Williams, Dorsey, Boyd and others. Having Pettibon transfer in will help this year, but the OL has to be a place of much attention in the 2020 recruiting class. Adding Ford to replace Dorsey is a step up at TE. Hopefully he can play this year. As far as coaching goes, there's been some changes. Lovie is taking over as Defensive coordinator. He's promoted his son to LB coach. He's hired Hudson from FAU as db coach, and this guy is supposed to be a great recruiter in Fla. On the offensive side of the ball, our RB coach, Ward, has left to join Carey at Temple. Carey, the former NIU coach, got Ward to rejoin him, as Ward coached with him at NIU. Luke Butkus was hired today by the Packers as there OL coach. That loss is significant. We also lost our director of football operations to Temple, although that's not as meaningful as it sounds. Lovie needs to find a new OL coach, and RB coach in the next several weeks. As of now, only 2 of his original hires are still on the staff. I hope he can handle being the HC and DC. This is a crucial year for the program.

he did that at every pro team he coached didn't he? pretty sure he was the DC with the Bears, I dont remember them having a DC when he was with them.

No, Rivera was his DC with the Bears. He fired him after we went to the superbowl, probably because Rivera got too much credit.

Today our strength and conditioning coach was hired for the same job by the Cincinnati Bengals. NFL thinks a lot of a few of our former assistants. Hope he replaces them with coaches of equal abilities.
