Rod Carey? Is he a former Fighting Illini RB?

No he was a former Center at Indiana / Head Coach at NIU from 2012-2018 now at Temple.

Illini Basketball / Looking for new I-N ownership
« Last post by Hawk on September 19, 2019, 11:44:32 AM »
Hello I-N!

I've put this out there a few times and haven't gotten any response back really from anybody. Hoping that with the start of basketball season maybe a few more people will see this.

First let me lay out the future of the site in terms of the domain registration and host services.
  • The host services (CrocWeb) if they are not renewed by somebody expire 8-5-2021 - original cost was $106.20 for 3 years ($35.40 Per year)
  • The domain (Illini-Nation.net) is renewed every year - $12 - Next due 7-14-2020

What does this mean? It means that by 7-14-2020 if we don't have a new main admin, somebody willing to put their name and contact info for I-N on CrocWebs site, I-N will shut down.

For 13 years now (this last August) as the original founder of IN it has been my pleasure to be the main admin here and provide a great place to converse with fellow Illini fans. Sadly my time doing so has come to an end.  To think that when I started this site I was 28 years old, and at the end of this month I will be 42 now is just crazy. All I ever wanted was an escape from the ESPN forum and a place we all could chat without being bothered by trolls. I'd say mission accomplished! I never would have thought it would have turned into what it was or even last as long as it has. At least 3 different versions of the site, news blogs and t shirts. Amazing!

We've seen social media explode over these last 13 years and with it sadly has contributed to depleted activity on message boards. Peope get older as I have too and lose interest in things. This doesn't mean that somebody couldn't change all that and breath new life into the site. I however can no longer be involved as my time is short these days. I'll be starting a family soon and cant monitor the site or keep track of renewing licenses, domains, etc...Its been a fun ride, and the many days of enjoyable banter here will always be remembered.

if you are interested please contact me via PM and when I get a chance ill reply back with the steps needed to be taken

Thank you all for your contributions over the years! Both in time, money and content.

Sincerely,
Blackbird aka- Firehawk  aka- Hawk
or to those that know me, Phil R.  :logo:

And here I was thinking that the loss was all about the X’s n’ O’s; silly me. In reality, it was about the bad mojo that was brought to the stadium.

Exhibit A:  Lovie’s beard (stillllll).
Exhibit B:  Those hideous orange jerseys combined with white helmets.

There ya have it.  Oust those two factors and we ought to run the table.

Of our better players numerous are transfers. I assume some of the lure could be playing for Lovie but likely more of it is come to UI and play in a P5 Conference and start immediately due to the lack of talent. Why the lack of talent well Lovie inherited a sparse cupboard but his recruiting hasn't been anything overly special.

I admit I was hopeful when he was hired thinking that his NFL experience in both StL and Chicago (nearby recruiting bases) would help draw lots of recruits to UIUC and while it may have helped somewhat it hasn't been nearly what most of us had hoped for.

I am really at a loss where they should turn if this year doesn't turn around. Is Rod Smith a possibility - could he do the job while at least hopefully keeping the offense intact?

A couple of names I would throw out are:

Mike Norvell (Memphis) he is 37 and Rod Carey (Temple formerly of NIU) he is 48

This team doesn't need a kicker, it needs a quarterback!  sadly.

the 2017 draft will go down as maybe one of the worst franchise decision makings of all time, and as of now its the main reason this team wont be a contender.  Every time I see Mahomes stat line I wanna puke. How in the world a GM and scout team, could get it THAT wrong is beyond me. Mahomes is throwing 50 yard bombs with pin point accuracy, and then here we have Mitch, who can't even hit wide open receivers at 15-20 yards.  :nonono:

undisciplined play. we have been that way throughout Lovie's tenure. B1G season could be ugly if we don't take giant steps in performance.

Yep its the calling card for him and it was with the bears too its crazy how many penalties his teams commit.

This was a critical game if Illinois had any hopes at all for a bowl bid.  They needed to be 3-0 to start conference play.  Then they had to win 3 games---most likely among the weakest opponents on their B1G schedule.  Nebraska, Rutgers, Purdue, Minnesota and Northwestern would be those teams.

With Rutgers being the easiest opponent and pretty much a sure win, we just needed 2 more wins.  It ain't gonna happen.

Playing crappy football in winning against a horrid UConn team and then losing to a MAC team at home, showed me that this team still has a long way to go.

I'm convinced that Lovie Smith will never get us there.  He needs to go after this year.

Defense played well enough to win but the offense was embarrassing.

the secondary looked terrible dude, definitely not like last years.

I realize they didnt give up many points, but when it mattered( the touchdown and on 3rd downs) they came up short and allowed Rodgers to convert numerous times by  not getting pressure on him and or losing their coverage and allowing wide open receptions.
