I agree on the Giorgi assessment that he hasn't adjusted well to not being the main (sole) inside threat. I actually kind of felt that way last year with Trent not being the #1 guard with Ayo arriving. Coaching staff needs to figure who meshes with who and get more guys going.

I thought we could have hung in there a bit better in the 2nd half..but yeah that's a tough place to play.
Kofi will be solid but gotta remember he's a freshman.
Bench other than Griffin has been awful...just awful.
Let's hope we can get the BBV kid going...I was hoping he'd be another Giorgi...speaking of him, he needs to get going...not playing well at all.
Need more out of Ayo as well if we're going to take the next step.

UofA is ranked 21 and if this Mannon kid plays ll the time like he played against us, then they will hover around the #10 mark is my guess.  If Ayo truly is going pro after this year, then he needs to be able to exert his will at crucial times, and I havn't really seen it so far.  I didnt see the Bucknell game which was his best.  Our guards have to play better defense.  UofA's defense was 2 levels better than ours on the perimeter.   Im happy with our interior defense, remembering that we are young and big but not really quick or long.  Depth is an issue on this team.  Kipper, Williams,  backup center, BBV all need to up their game, Williams especially, because he can play big and can cause mismatches on the offensive end, but not if he cant shoot.  Giorgi hasnt adapted well to not being the inside focus of the offense.  He needs to pull another tool out of the tool box, ala the dribble drive running hook.

I watched the game, as well as the game last nite against Arizona.  We played well and I felt that GCU was hitting shots which kept the game close, but when we got the lead, we kept it throughout.  Kofi ruled the paint and that truly was the difference in the game.  GCU has a freshman pg named Blackshear who is really good and basically did what he wanted.

We came out hot against UofA but Az is just more solid and intense on both sides of the ball.  Their defense was smothering and it seemed like they won the battle for loose balls.  We were pretty close to even at halftime.  The 2nd half wasn't pretty.  Like last year, we go through lulls where the opponent will score 3 or 4 quick baskets in a row and go up.  We fought back a couple times but eventually the wheels came off and the game was over.  Az has a red hair'd white kid that can really play.  I thought I was watching Larry Bird for a minute, quick off the dribble and made about every running shot he took.  I think his name is Mannon.  I seen the Kipper of old a little in this game.  It would sure help if he can build upon that.  Kofi did somewhat ok, but Giorgi, though he hit a 3 ball at the beginning of the game, had a bad nite.

It looks like we will depend on Allan Griffin alot this year and I like him as an option.  He does everything Williams can do, and he shoots quite a bit better.  Our perimeter defense needs to get a whole lot better and we are not a good passing team on offense.  Our bigs will get in foul trouble so we really need Kipper to play mean.  I was hoping that the Euro kid would be good, but since the exhibition, he has looked lost out there.  Of course, Trent, Ayo, and Feliz need to bring it every nite.

I read 2 college basketball publications in our local Barnes and Nobles

One had us finishing 5th in the BIG
The other had us at 9th

One pub was Athanon (sp?) ... can't recall the other

Both had Sparty winning the National Title

Ayo and Georgi both were nominated for pre-season honors (1st thru 3rd all conference)

So...did anyone watch the game?
It was tough to watch...our bench stinks.  Damonte isn't providing much...the two freshman, Hamlin and BBV or whatever his name is, were terrible.
Kofi and Feliz are leading us right now.  Ayo I would think will step up on the big stage against Zona, but we need he and Trent to get something going.  They didn't do much.
GCU has one heck of a place and environment to play in.  Very cool arena...packed and loud.  Nice win overall but concerning they couldn't put it away.

I appreciate you doing it bud...I visit pretty much every day hoping someone would have something to put out there.
While we looked like crap against Nicholls state, I think we will be tough this year...and recruiting is looking up.  Hopefully it will rejuvenate everyone.

Yea it was a classic early season game to me at least we werent Nebraska yessh.  If they didn't have a huge lead in the game maybe a little more worried that said the free throws need to get better and this team shouldn't be having 23 turnovers with all the guards on the team.
23 turnovers-geesh.  Didn't see, but it looked like Ayo played well and Trent had a rough game according to the box score.  I wish I could go to the GCU game tonite but sold out.  Mike Finke graduated and Tim, I guess transferred.
