Yadi that defense was called a box and one.
Sam was supposed to stay in the middle of the lane, out of the way, where he could do no harm while the other 4 guys tried to play defense.

In all seriousness, when they did that, I was wondering if they were trying to hide Sam.  He was standing right behind Meyers.
Ha, yeah I hear you...if he's not on the perimeter, where do you put him...and he's prob not quick enough out there especially all hobbled up.

Anyone that thinks ML is ready for the NBA is crazy! BP and DJR can not play defense at all!  BW tried a sad 2-3 zone defense with the front guards standing at the free throw line, can not stop a three from the free throw line? Feel like a cub fan, maybe next year.

He does not have to be ready.....he has to be drafted. Big difference.

A better way to hide Sam would be on the bench. The fact that we designed a defensive set to minimize the negative impact of an MVC player kind of boggles my mind. Why not just play somebody else?

Seriously, I just don't understand the rationale behind sticking with the same ineffective lineups. Why not try a lineup of Meyers/Egwu or Shaw/Paul/DJ/Tracy? I can't see that lineup being any worse than Meyers/Paul/DJ/Tracy/Sam or Meyers/Paul/DJ/Bertrand/Tracy or any of the ridiculous Meyers + 4 guard lineups the coaching staff has been throwing out there.....

Absolutely true.   That's what is sad about the affect the NBA draft has on the college game.  Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I loved it back in the day when you could count on a player being in college for 4 years.  It made it much more fun to be a fan because you knew who would be back the next year.

Being ready, and being drafted are mutually exclusive.
