Mike Thomas....good luck!

You've inherited Illinois Basketball in the darkest hour since the early 1990's when the program was hit with NCAA sanctions.  Saturday's loss to Nebraska was horrible.

Unfortunately...you've inherited a fan base that thinks they're big time...in the like's of UCLA and Kentucky!

I cannot express how disappointed I was in the team's performance on Saturday.  I looked forward to watching how the team would respond to Coach Weber's media comments earlier in the week, but they're were clearly not ready for the challenge.

I want the best for Illinois Basketball....I want Illinois in the NCAA tournament every year, in the sweet sixteen, competing for the Final Four, and WINNING the National Championship.

The Big Ten and the college basketball market wants Illinois to be successful.  My question is...who is better than Bruce Weber to lead the program?  This is an argumentative question, but I'm sticking behind Coach Weber to fix the problem.  After your hire of Beckman, I am already questioning your ability to lead!

So you at the Conseco Fieldhouse in March!

well t we have a 20+ page therad on possible replacement type guys. I think everyone needs a new start including Bruce. But my question to you is why question MT ability to lead for hiring Beckman? He was a successful coach at a MAC school and the guy we went after (Sumlin) took another gig. Schiano said no and is now coaching in the NFL. Big difference between the 75th best job in college in football versus the 20th best job in hoops. This will be the best job available barring a surprise firing in the offseason. Doesnt mean we cant miss. But right now this program is going nowhere, IMO. Whether its BW or not, we need change.

Im pretty sure there are plenty of Illini fans, including MT, that can answer that question. I know I can, anyone. Sorry, it's time for a change. Weber has lost the team, the majority of the fanbase, the donors, and would lose the recruits if he was to stick around another year. Its over, get over it.

eh..it's his opinion...I don't have any problems with it....earlier today I made a past questioning whether MT and  alone was enough to turn things around, I think it's gonna take more then that, I think we truly have a image problem..but that's for the thread I started.

To be honest I'm not sold on MT yet either...but its early

We better hope MT has the answers...if he fails on this hire, we're screwed...it's time to get this program back on track.  I think there are several guys who could turn this around...we have a great situation here for the right coach.

I have no problem with the hiring of TB.  Look at the big picture, other than a few spurts, we have been mediocre in football.  Your choices were limited.  The BB program is much different.  We had a rich history in BB and can again, more coaches will have an interest.  I have all the confidence in MT.  He just got here and he had two messes dumped in his lap.  I know one thing, he will be better than his predecessor that's for sure.  Illinois BB is still a plumb job, it was just derailed by two men.  This hire is very important and MT will make us prominent again.

Welcome T-Money........Great post.

Unfortunately I think Bruce is gone, but I think you are spot on with your analysis of the basketball situation.

Football, jury is still out and I think Thomas got played like a fool by Sumlin (that would have been a bad hire anyway, IMO, so at least we didn't waste $3.4MM a year on an unproven guy)...nobody but a Saban, Meyer, or Les Miles type is worth anywhere near that money.
