There are two problems:

1) liberals in university administration
2) crappy basketball coach

If you don't include the players as part of the problem you are blind...

If you don't think part of the problem is political, you haven't been following along...when you look at the histroy of the trustees, how they got on and what their stance has been regarding athletics...why would they demand a hire of any ethnicity...that seems a bit out of line.
The fact the school abandoned the chief when 90%+ of the alumni said to keep him...it shows where the priorities lie...the university has no cajones...and politics has certainly played a role in how we've gotten here.

sort of on that note

was just listening to the radio about why Louisville is a better job than Illinois, some hoops guy was on the radio he says its all facility based. Louisville has a better arena than some pro teams, and kids eat that up. Plus they have Pitino but still have top notch facilities. We dont, there is no doubt.

I visited the house that fried chicken built last weekend and it is definitely plush.  Huge too.  I think it's bigger than Savis (granted this is for hockey but) in stl and conseco in indy.  Havent been to any other pro venues though.

Sure, we don't want politics to invade the sports board, but Phil he IS right.   If a social/political agenda is going to dictate or influence who gets hired, then this is a legitimate debate premise for the title of this thread.

Hire the best coach.  Who cares what color or ethnicity the guy is?

Then I'd like to add a third problem:  Conservatives for gutting public money to higher public education (or any public education).  Schools are having enough trouble maintaining their academic infrastructure, they can't be throwing money around for the "elite" coaches.  Unfunded mandates to states helps no one.

Coaches salaries are paid from DIA revenue, not state funds. The DIA is supposed to be self sustaining. I assume that to be the case unless someone has evidence to the contrary.
