A "Shout Out" and Big "Thank You" to Big Phil!!!

Ok, I've ONLY posted to and LOOKED at this message board for the past 3-4 years.  I ventured outside the comfortable walls of this familiar realm yesterday to glean articles and postings from what other message boards were saying about Weber and the game yesterday.

My GOD!!!!

Be thankful for this little gem of a board (HAWK - all the kudos in the world to you, you run a great board)!!!

I just want to make a specific, special mention to Phil - nearing 37,000 posts, and he is a moderator to boot.  Helps keep this place clean and civilized, and he makes great posts, too.

Be thankful for what we have, and again, it's an illustration that it's the people not the program.  Without Phil, Hawk, Crusader, this is just another trashy message board with constant rants and criticism.

I'm singling out Phil here, only because I've personally met him, and know him a bit better than the other guys.  And given that fact he lives in a house full of women, it becomes easier to understand how and why he dedicates this much time to the board!!! 

Phil, thanks for all you do.  Thank you, too, Hawk -it's  your board, thanks Cru as well.

Phil - I still owe you a ballgame.  I know you prefer Cubs to Sox, so I'll suck it up and deal with that fact.  Let's make it sometime this coming season!

On a side note I have met alot of posters here, especially alot of the old guys who no longer post because they dont care about Illini sports stuff anymore (tired of it, got married, etc..)

and I visit those boards and read, get some good info but the lack of civility not only on Illini message boards but in society in general just bugs the crap out of me. Why people cant agree to disagree and move instead of attacking each other personally, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE YOU HAVE NEVER MET, amazes me.

If this board was like that I wouldnt be here either. Anyway it pain me (and hawk and the mods) to have to delete or edit any posts you guys make, we only do it as a last resort and it is very rare.

On another board I post on(Not and Illini board) I could to tell you stfuNoob! and it would be understood that it was a joke and that it was actually a term of endearment..........so stfuNoob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I love this board as well and everything Hawk does, and your contribution as well.     I have had to adjust because on my other board when people are being buttheads we duke it out and it takes care of itself.....but I know this board is different so I try to tone it down.  On occasion the ludicrous pot shots drive me nuts and in weak moments I sometimes give in....my apologies for biting....I do try to follow the golden rule and I am the nicest guy you have ever met and will take a ton of shlit before going off, but when somebody pushes it I eventually bite back....again....trying not to do so as I like you guys (e-like you) and I want this board to stay around because it is a great place to come.

It's a great board and I plan on meeting Phil this summer and if IMan can find time to meet me when I will be driving thru the great state. I an going to meet another member sometime who lives south of Houston.  It's like a family and we bicker and fight but it's all good. Hawk you are as Lou Henson always put it. TREMENDOUS!!!!

Phil, I actually got a new car last December (2010), 36,000 miles on it now.  Got a 6-speed manual Volkswagen CC.  It's pretty slick, I love it, fun to drive.

I actually bought the Subaru from my company when I was done with it (8.5 years old, 245,000 miles).  Bought it for $750 which is a bargain because it is still a good car, and I am the original owner, and I know every last bit of maintenance that went into it.  Holding onto it to give to my son in two years.

me4871... South of Houston????  You'll have to tell me where!  I am in Houston every 4-6 weeks nowdays... I opened a warehouse near the Intercontintental airport on the north side of town, but I get all over the area when I am down there.  I usually come in and stay for 3 days, sometims 4.  Would love to meet a fellow board poster/Illini fan.  -E

And Phil, I am sooooo right there with you on the lack of civility, manners and general courtesy that is lacking these days.   I don't think it is a stretch to attribute a lot of the current behaviour on the fact there IS the internet and it's easy to abuse people from behind a cover and a wall where no one knows who you are.  it transfers over into the real world... with more texting, cell phones and email, and message boards, people are losing the art of face to face communication and real people skills and civility.

It is PAINFUL listening to my son or daughter make a phone call (which they RARELY ever do).  They have no idea how to carry on a conversation!!!!!

ES. I have two weeks in march I take every year to watch BB. I will be on vacation march 8th thru march 27th.  I live in Dallas and was thinking on driving to Galveston for a few days.  I am trying to think of the users name on here. Its like texasillini I think. He lives in league city IIRC.   We need to plan a get together sometime.

This is a great board..I appreciate all of you and the way you moderate the board...I'd like to meet everyone at some point...if somebody could coordinate us getting together at a game or something, it would be pretty cool.

me4871... I am in the Dallas area almost as much as I am in the Houston area.  I lived in McKinney for 10 years until not too terribly long ago.
