whoever the replacement is NEEDS to be able to recruit chicago...this is a must! smart certainly would give the program a "buzz" for the first year maybe, but can he recruit chicago? i know one person that can. he also knows/has built a relationship with all of our current players and recruits. he's also black...

sorry joker just saw this.  If you mean Jerrance, in my opinion the answer is he has no shot to be named HC. Will he stay here with the next coach? Possibly. My hunch would be they would like him to stay for the transition to the next guy though. As far as recruiting chicago we havent got the great kids out of chicago even with him. The Davises, the roses, the parkers (?), we get the good but not great. I see no reason why a shaka smart type coach couldnt continue getting the shaws and henry's of the world.
for sure. but i think short of hiring calipari and paying recruits, ui will usually miss on the elite top flight recruits out of chicago. sucks to say but probably true. i'm happy with consistently getting quality top 50-75 recruits that will stay a couple years and develop. throw in a five star stud every couple years and we could have a legit nc contending team. as for jerrance, everyone's telling me there's no way he's a realistic candidate, no hc experience. i can understand that, and it probably won't happen. but i honestly think that given the chance, he would be successful here... as for shaka, i have nothing against him. just don't know much about him, except he's enjoyed success at a mid-major. hmm... but like i said, the ability to recruit chicago is the most important thing, imo

One of my favorite lines from Blues Brothers was the country western singer saying to Jake....

No, but I DID grow up about 10 minutes from Dixie Square Mall, which is the mall where the famous Blue Brothers Car Chase took place (inside the mall).  My mom used to take me shopping there when I was young.

BTW... about two weeks ago, it was on the news that they were finally tearing that mall down.  It had been vacant since the mid to late 1970's.

Shaka's gotta be first on the list of potential hires for the UIUC headcoaching job!

1) He's malatto - he can cross into both the black and white worlds that he needs to in this type of job
2) His blackness gets him into the young black elite circles of Chicago, the black power capital of America
3) The Final 4 on his resume gives him street cred with the white donor/alums ... and he earned that Final 4

Shaka will also be a guest commentator on 'Road to the Final 4' ... the perfect launch forum to announce his new job.   His midwest roots, his pinball-game style, his charisma give him the upper hand on all other candidates  ;)
