I can't agree more with Tupper...sometimes these guys can be irritating, but they have to be fed up with the program as well.  BW is actually admitting some fault here...we've not heard that much from him...he's still calling out the players of course, but accepting some blame along with them.  Who knows, this may be something that will rally the guys to actually play some ball...but it will certainly be too little too late.
It is not fun to see what's going on with our program...while I would embrace us moving in a positive direction, for that all to happen, it seems we need to get rid of the coach who is a great guy...and to get rid of him, we obviously need to fail on some level.  This just stinks.

Yep, I hate it too that Bruce is such a great guy and after last night is almost guaranteed to be unemployed, but he admitted last night what I've been thinking for a while.  He needed to sit a couple guys for a game or two to get their attention and make them realize what they were doing was not acceptable.  Those who can remember far enough back will remember Bobby Knight doing this very thing with his all american Calbert Chaney in Chaney's senior season.  Chaney responded and went on to have a great year.  I know Bruce said it should have happened three weeks ago, but if I were him I would still do it the next game.  And, yes, even though it's Nebraska and we probably could win that game, I would still make the move.

What else can anyone say that hasn't already been said.  BW will wind up somewhere again and probably be successful.  There is just no way it can be here.

Read this yesterday in Seth Davis' Mailbag.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/seth_davis/02/15/Hoops.mailbag/index.html?sct=cb_t12_a1

So with Illinois falling by the wayside in the Big Ten, is this Coach Weber's swan song? If so, who do the Illini look to especially with a loaded junior class in Chicago?-- Jeff Keane, Tinley Park, IL

I almost didn't include this question because I like Bruce Weber so much and want to see him succeed. However, I'm not exactly breaking news by reporting that the vibes around him are not very good, to say the least. When your athletic director a) didn't hire you and b) says he'll evaluate you at the end of the season, you're being sent a clear message: Win big and win soon.

It's premature to speculate about potential replacements, so I won't bother -- except to point out that I think Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall is going to be the hottest mid-major coach this spring. Champaign isn't a great college town along the lines of places like Ann Arbor, Madison, Chapel Hill, Athens et al., but the assets of this job are immense. The connection to Chicago is foremost among them, but keep in mind that recruiting in a big city like Chicago is never easy -- mostly because it's difficult to do it successfully without cheating. Still, Illinois is one of a small handful of schools with a national brand that can draw recruits coast to coast.

I sure hope Weber turns this thing around. He is a good guy and a good coach who has conducted himself with the utmost class. At the end of the day, however, this is about winning. And if Weber can't get this thing done, I promise there will be a long line of coaches begging for the chance to come to Champaign and try.

Great find Mike, I have been saying forever this is how coaches will view this job. Not saying we cant swing and miss, but there will be a line to get in here.

And Marshall would be a great choice

Do you guys think we'll be forced to have a minority hire as was rumored after the Beckman contract approval issue with the 2 abstaining trustees' votes?

If not, I'd LOVE to see Brad Stevens hired. Look what he did with their talent. Smart guy and young.

I am pretty sure a forced black hire due to PC/affirmative action/white guilt won't end well.  If the best guy for the job happens to be black, then I think its fine.
