« on: February 15, 2012, 11:58:06 AM »
We were down most of 4th quarter, down 7 (with 1 minute to go)....we forced OT and then our PG sunk two free throws with 2.3 seconds left down by 1 (they had sunk two to go up by 1 with 7 to go)........here is the finish

WILD FINISH: Elmwood 69, Peoria Heights 68 OT

The thing is that all of us at the game last night said the shot should have counted, even though our team won.  Watching the replay, I agree it is 3 seconds and the ref got the call right...I think our score keeper screwed up because I think she started the clock late.

BTW, it was great for the young man who made those free throws (he has an appointment to the AirForce academy and is a hell of receiver in football).  He is my best friend's son and a great kid (very humble).  Unfortunately he missed two free throws earlier in the season down one with 1 second left.....could have won or tied the game..........I know he felt horrible about that so this redemption in an incredible pressure situation was great for him.   Love that kid like one of my own.

pretty cool finish for your team...nice to be on the good end of that.  I agree refs got it right too...good for your hometown boys.
My boy's 5th grade team got eliminated last night in their last tourney of the year...they came back and tied the game with a minute to go, went down by 2 then my son stole it with about 5 seconds on the clock and drove to about 16 feet away and missed at the buzzer...he was inconsolable.  I gotta love his passion for the game at such a young age and reassured him he'd get plenty of chances like that.

ya that is hard on them when they miss the game winning shot, but as you say he will get more shots...my son plays on the JV team (should have played up this year on varsity, but oh well).    He was sick 2.5 days last week with a nasty infection, so in the game last Friday he didn't get to play until 4 minutes to go in 3rd quarter (he is best player on team and always starts).  They were down 15 and he lead them all the way back to even,  but ended up losing by four in the end(on the road).   Last night he also hit the winning free throws in the JV game, even though it wasn't quite as dramatic of an ending as varsity it was still cool.

BTW, check out the Rasta looking kid in the video who is jawing at the ref.....that freaking kid is a freshman who was lightning quick and was drilling 3's from 25 feet with the kid who hit game winning free throws in his grill....that kid is a player.

Ha yeah I saw that kid...sounds pretty good for a freshman especially.
My boy scored 24 out of 32 last night..and he's the pg... :confuzed: he really does a good job distrbuting for his age...but he's so quick, he can get to the rim pretty easy and finishes well...gotta keep in mind we live in a class A district so we play all small schools..he'd prob learn some tough lessons if he'd play against kids from bigger schools.
Hope your boy stays healthy...this winter has been horrible for sickness...didn't get enough freezes this year and germs are like rampant.

Absolutely the right call.   Ball was still in the hands when the buzzer went off.   Wow, that coach was acting like an azz.

BTW, did you see the guy in the Illini sweatshirt blocking the door to the officials locker room.     No one was getting past him.

That was our Superintendent and that is exactly what he was doing.    He was also on the horn to the PoPo immediately to make sure the refs got out of their alive.

It was definitely the right call, but for the life of me I can't figure out why our coach didn't call a time out after the made free throw and set up a proper defense....no pressure on inbounder at all and it almost cost.

BTW......that was our coaches 100th win at our school and we set the record for most wins in our school's regular season history (did the same in football this year too)

LOL  I was actually sitting 10 feet from the Heights guy who posted the video..but be assured that Roger (our super) is an alum!  Although I need to give him him shizz because that was our St Jude White Out game and he should have a St Jude Elmwood Trojan White Out shirt on his big azz.

We raised over $5,000 Monday and Tuesday for St Jude. Monday the boys basketball team had to wear a dress to school and get there head shaved to raise money.     Pics of both my boys in drag (cameron the St Jude patient and lil bro Collin) on FB.
