REO is prolly the best I've seen.  I saw the beach boys at an outdoor amphitheater one time.  That was pretty cool too.  Van Halen with Sammy was good.

Yeah Phil, it was cool.  They played in the gym, I think it was 1979 or 1980.  Being an H-F kid, you do know the Panazzo brothers are from Homewood-Flossmoor right?  I'm pretty sure that's why we got lucky and they played in the Hillcrest gym.  They were probably doing someone on the faculty there a nice favor.

This thread has way too much classic rock in it :icon_biggrin: :tounge:

Nobody's heard of Hum? They were from Champaign, around in the '90s. Never got the attention they should have. Some great stuff.

HUM is a really good band.  And they did play the Champaign 150 year festival last summer (or was it the summer before, time all runs together these days) and they sounded great!  They did somehow get lost in the shuffle.  I think another band with a similar sound pretty much stole the spotlight, and these guys never recovered or broke through.

Nice call though!

Other local bands/acts:

Adrian Belew (solo, King Crimson)
Head East (Danville)
Enuff Znuff (Blue Island,IL), often did gigs in Danville
Badfinger (one-time drummer in the 80's Jon Richardson was from Champaign)
The Last Gentlemen (these guys were pretty popular in the 80's did get an album cut)
Suzy Bogguss (Aledo, IL) - country singer
Gretchen Wilson (Pocahontas, IL) - country singer
Mudvayne (Peoria)

Head East is from Danville?   Well I'll be a monkeys uncle!  I did not know that.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.  2 Chronicles 7:14
