Theo was on the radio this morning and said Z was going to get a chance to prove he has changed. I guess he didn't mean he was getting a chance in Chicago.   :cheering:

Angelo gets fired....Z gets shipped out of town...Illini win on the road...im not sure I can handle much more good news in the same week  :icon_biggrin:

Theo's trading or releasing a lot of older players for young guys who have not lived up to their potential.  Taking a few flyers in a season where he can afford to take the flyers.  Hope some of them pan out big time.

Still think he is going to move Garza but for his price. Then I think he still moves Fonze.  Gotta eat the salary and take back a high risk prospect.  Fonze will be begging to get away from this rebuilding process.

I hope he doesn't cave on Garza. If he can't get a GREAT deal, sign him for 4 years with a mutual option on year 5. A lot of money coming off the books in the next 24 months and most of the talent in the system is in A ball or just starting out in rookie leagues. By year 3, it should be all good and would be nice to have at least one solid veteran pitcher already in place.

I look for Dempster and possibly Wells to be traded at the deadline.

I see no way he is caving.  Nice guy Hendry might.  But he is taking his time trying to leverage
The best deal.  Or he can sit tight and either resign him or make it a deadline deal.

Anyone hear Cliff Floyd on MLB radio today? He told some stories about Z that I doubt anyone has heard. In 2007, when Floyd was with the Cubs, he said Z was a ticking time bomb almost every game that he pitched someone has to pull him aside and calm him down. 2007 was the year he decked Barrett. He also said that once he got his contract he stopped working out, stopped running, played on his laptop all day long (remember when he missed games because he had worn out his wrist playing video games).

MLB radio also said the Cubs paid Z the $2M+ he lost from his suspension last year. What a joke. Between that money, the money they have to pay Volstad and the $15M they paid the Marlins, the Cubs LOST money on the deal. They must of really wanted him out of town.

Other teams are balking now, but asking price only likely to go up once pennant races kick in in June - July.  Teams will taste the chance to win & will be competing for pitching like Garza, which is rare.  Hopefully, Theo can recoup the level of talent that Hendry gave up to get him.

I'd rather just sign him to a 4-5 year deal. The odds of a prospect being good or better are slim.
