That's the problem. He needs to have a conventional 4 if the plan is to run through Leonard. If the plan is ball movement around the outside and shoot gaps then continue to play one post player .....but.... You have to be out intransition.

I think it comes down to this. If a team is getting back routinely on D, you run tradition line up. If we are beating them back often; switch to small guys and try to push it more.

Either way. Damned if you do or don't. Because it will be complaining about not going to ML enough, or not enough playing time for the smalls.

Regardless, they need to work on one or the other until they get at least decent at it.

Man, I do not like coach's 3-guard/4-guard offense.  Matter of fact, like I've always stated, if this team doesn't make the NCAA's, coach needs to be let go.  Back to this game and this season thus far, coach is back to doing what he always does.  It's sickening.

Shouldn't of brought Sam in over Crandall.  Not a good move for the immediate or future as Sam's ankle is bad, just like it was his last two seasons at Bradley.  He can't guard anyone in the Big 10.  No Sammy and Crandall is still here is all I'm saying.

Scrap the 3/4 guard offense.

Abrams or Paul run the point.

Bertrand at the 2G spot.

Henry at the SF spot.

Imje at the PF spot.

And Leonard at C.

Put Leonard down low and keep him there.  Let Imje run around and pick, then crash the boards.  Keep ML in the POST!  Run high-low when you have Griffey or Shaw in at PF.  Egwu is the back-up center.  PLAY ALL FIVE PLAYERS!  Use the BENCH!

DJ is the best 6th man IMO.  He can do a lot.

Paul should have his minutes cut.  He plays too much and still has way too many TO's and air balls.  If DJ could handle the ball better, I'd start him over Paul.  Bertrand has to start and play.  Abrams is better than Sammy because Sam is hurt/limping and can't guard, PLUS he is gone after this season.  Play Abrams over him IMO.

Henry has to play.  Too good to ride the pine.  Paul and DJ are not so much better than than Bertrand, Abrams, and Henry, that BP and DJR should get 30+ minutes a game!

I am so disapointed with coach and his decisions.  Mad that CH left.  He would of had more minutes if SM wasn't on the team.  SM will not be any more healthier than he is now IMO and he is a limpin' PG that can't guard plus CH has two more years left.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but sure miss the Lou Do teams and Self teams, wasn't a fan of Kruger either, but please don't get me wrong.  Coach is a great person, family man, leader, etc, but I don't like his style of play, coaching style, substitution patterns, or ... I digress.

I want and expect more from this basketball program and if this coaching staff can't get it done this year with regard to 20+ wins and a NCAA berth, then I say let's get a new head coach and staff.  I can't watch this style of basketball much longer.  3 and chuck.  Big men out around the 3 pt. line pickin' or shootin'.  Just ugly basketball and just not the strength of the players that this coach recruited.  There is TALENT on the this team, but coach can't change his ways or style.  Purdue was not a more talented team.

No one should be surprised.  I went and looked at most of you guys' season predictions and they aren't pretty.  So why are you guys all of a sudden surprised that this young/inexperienced team is struggling?  You knew it was going to happen - you predicted it :dontknow:

Player, you nailed it!!  We have more talent on this team but it is not being utilized in the right way.
I don't know how much more of this I can watch.  I have seen 8th grade teams pass the ball better than these guys did tonight.  Leonard has no business setting screens 20 ft. from the basket, yet he continues to do so.  That tells me he is not being coached properly.  Indiana beat OSU tonight, they will embarrass us when we go to Bloomington and yet we have more talent than they do.
Happy New Years everyone, I am drunk and going to bed.

What a joke. Indiana has gone from doormat to contender. What Sampson did to their program was 10x worse and more recent than Gordon did to us. Yet we tread water while the Hoosiers win. How much longer do we have to put up with mediocrity?

Back to back to back top 30 classes. Some much better than top 30. Yet we can't even compete with Purdue or UNLV. Last time I looked this offense was DEAD last in the B1G. LAST! and with the cupcake schedule we have played, for the most part.

By and large, except for a few fleeting glimpse, the last 48 months of Illini basketball has been GARBAGE.

But hey..remember 2005. If that makes you feel better.

We have no business being down 25+ pts to a mediocre Purdue team. Not posting Ws, which was predicted by some, and looking like we've never played the game before are 2 entirely different things. Losing a road game to Purdue is not shocking, but the complete ineptitude at both ends of the floor in that 2nd half and being blown out of the gym is inexcusable. Complete failure from top to bottom. Given the talent we are supposed to have, I don't think anyone predicted what we saw today.

I know we are supposed to be positive, but criminy, what positive can we take from that abomination today?  I know we're not supposed to bash Weber, but his screaming at the refs with 18 seconds left, the outcome having been decided long before, was just ridiculous. There was absolutely nothing to be gained. You just got your derriere kicked through no fault of the refs - just shut up, go home and figure out how to make your team better.

Most, if not all, of us expected some bumps in the road, but we also expected to see improvement as the season progressed. Frankly, since the Gonzaga game I think we have regressed. We have looked decent at times - 2nd half run vs Mizzou and first half vs Minny - but we have looked lost more than we have looked good. There is still time to see that improvement, but my confidence that we will has been all but drained. We are halfway through the regular season - we can't continue to hide behind the "young, inexperienced" excuse.  Somebody has to step up.

Predicting that this team wouldn't be that good was easy...........but hearing all summer that this team would play harder(which they are)-play smarter  :nonono: and be better suited for this offense with better talent(they have talent)...

But seeing how they lose games is whats going to kill most real fans.....They look lost-unprepared as if they dont know the basics of basketball...as least last year you could blame it on the seniors not playing hard(because they didnt most of the time) or recruiting was down-things happened and players left the program...

This year..we have the best Center that the program has had in several years...a Senior point guard- who the coach likes-Sam was supposed to be everything that Dmac wasn't.....and he's not...plain and simple...if anyone wants to know why they can ask me and i will tell them....sure the team is young but it looks like the 10 early practices and the Italy trip was just a fun trip instead of learning period .......what gets done practice -sure lose some games--but dont beat yourself by not knowing the offense or how to pass the ball or dribble-is crap.....ive heard enough of not having players that fit this system....its the system..But don't worry im not going there about Weber...I dont have to.........The AD will do what he has to .......
