I remember that too Wizz, he was called the Waiter and the European Magic Johnson

if he was called that in Europe then they must not have had a clue who Magic Johnson was....how many times can you remember Kukoc handling the ball?? he was a spot shooter most of the time here.......puzzling, I dunno, dont remember hearing it.

As far as Sam's comparison of Mirotic to Ginobli, I'm sure its only because Ginobli is considered one of the biggest steals in recent drafts in the last 10 years...their games are nothing alike...Mirotic seems to have some good post moves and can drive the ball for somebody 6'10" and only 20 years... that's a good sign for Bulls fans...I wouldn't mind seeing him on this roster right now, and we have a spot open, unfortunately I think we have to keep him there for 2 years, part of some contract I think

Just to be clear I am not making the comparison just writing what was said about him prior to coming over.  And his game  was much more as a playmaker than as a spot up shooter.

When you convert his stats to 36 minutes playing time he averaged more than 5 assists a game as a Bull.  Would have been more, but a guy named Pippen often ran the offense.  His scoring for the Bulls, when converted to 36 minutes per game was more than 17 points per game and his 3 ball percentage was barely over 30%.

Toni was actually a decent post up player.  He was so long, often was guarded by a much smaller player and could turn either way in an awkward fashion ala McHale.  Just not nearly as strong as McHale.

He was a facilitator with deep range, but he was not a spot up shooter.  He did get used that way a little when they ran iso for mj.

I do remember Toni as being very good in transition. He was great at getting the ball up the court quickly with a long outlet pass. He had good handles and could pretty much get the ball to anywhere he wanted it to go without much trouble. It does seem to stick in my mind that he was shooting a lot of long jumpers without much passing or movement though. He did have some really nice baseline drives that seemed like his go to moves.

Who knows what he would have done if he wasn't in the triangle. Might have been more of a play maker. He was solid though, so of this dude can play like Toni did for the Bulls, he would be a nice add on piece.

I think he has to stay over there for 2 more years, he's under contract I believe, its one reason why he dropped in the draft if I am not correct...if we did want him sooner then that, I think we would have to pay the team and the buyout

Kukoc was known as the "Waiter" for his ability to "serve" up assists while he was in Europe. He had nice handles for a 6"11 guy with good court vision. You also have to remember that back then anyone 6'9 and above who could dribble a basketball was compared ot magic.

exactly Reap the only reason he was compared to Magic was his size

Mirotic named Euroleague MVP
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chinews-bulls-acquisition-mirotic-n-20111226,0,2859249.story

The Bulls are extremely high on the sharpshooting big man, who likely will remain in Europe for two to three more seasons. The Bulls acquired Mirotic from the Timberwolves, who drafted him 23rd, in exchange for picks Nos. 28, 43 and cash.

Mirotic is on a five-year deal with a costly buyout of roughly 2 million Euros that the Bulls will eventually have to negotiate his release from with Real Madrid. Bulls international scout Ivica Dukan has a longstanding relationship with Real Madrid officials.
