Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with a broken thumb on his right throwing hand suffered late in Sunday's 31-20 victory over San Diego, multiple sources told the Tribune.

According to a source, surgery could be an option for the quarterback, but there is no immediate plan to put Cutler on injured reserve. Essentially, he could return for the playoffs, with six weeks remaining in the regular season.

Just when it looks like things are going good for the Bears.  Time for the Caleb Hanie experience.

It's not like Cutler was the reason the Bears are on a 5 game streak... in fact, he was pretty darn bad against the Lions last week.  Not writing them out of it just yet... Too be honest, I think the Bears would provide the biggest challenge assuming the Packers get homefield advantage throughout.  No other team would be able to handle the weather, IHMO.

Oh, and the Bears schedule is pretty weak to close the season...

I'm hopeful for no surgery. I think if he goes without, he will be back in 4-5 because he still has something to prove. Wants to shake off the wimpy persona from last season, even though every othe QB in the league would have thrown in the towel a long time ago, getting mauled the way he has at times.

Good thing they have been on a run before this though.
