Also, there's a quote from the article you posted that makes it sound like Sandberg isn't going to be the next Cubs manager:

Also, there's a quote from the article you posted that makes it sound like Sandberg isn't going to be the next Cubs manager:

eh. not necessarily ...one could say managing in AAA for a few years is Major league...but I can also see the reasoning behind wanting a guy that has been there already to shape a team....wonder if he's going to bring in Francona

"Theo called me 10 minutes after they issued the press release (on Mike Quade) and told me that they have a list of guys and I'm not on it,'' Sandberg said Wednesday afternoon. "He wished me good luck and said he hoped I got a chance somewhere soon.

"He didn't owe me that at all. He didn't have to do that. It was a classy move and I'm very appreciative of the phone call. In the end, I wished him and everybody there good luck.''

Too bad.  But I really appreciate the professionalism of the new front office.  There was no need to call Sandberg, but they extended him the courtesy of contacting him personally to let him know anyway.
