It bothers me some to see this...I'll admit...it's nice when your team gets some recognition, but we probably don't deserve much at this point.  I think this Illini team stands to be the nicest surprise in the big ten provided we are half as good as everyone on here thinks we will be.  I agree with many of you that we'll be better than the experts say, but I sure hope everyone is keeping their goals in line as we are obviously very green in many areas.  We have some talent, but one thing is for sure...there aren't any believers out there prior to the season starting.  Other than the Illini faithful.

One's guy opinion and we know everyone has one. Under the radar is fine with me. I remember a few years back we had a young team, which no one thought much of and we (the team almost won the B1G tourney.

That was written 3-26-11 & JR was still on the team. But he still may be an idiot, that I do not know :icon_biggrin:

ah good point...I didn't look at the date on it...
I'm wondering if he did an update if we'd still be 6th.  He doesn't seem real high on any of our players.
Hopefully our guys will come out in the preseason and show people what they're made of.  Would be nice to shut some mouths.

The majority of people that write these articles know ZIP another than we lost 4 SR's. Most probably never watched more than 2 games of the DMAC, TIS, Davis era regular season games. They never saw the complete mediocrity that those guys brought to the floor most nights. The talent, athleticism, attitude and coachability is MUCH better than it has been for the last 4 years.

3rd place B1G and a 7 or better seed. Anything less calls for a a thorough examination of the entire basketball program.

The idea that Brandon Paul and DJ Richardson who were both starters much of their first two years and both averaged right at double digits in PPG, are not getting any consideration for at least honorable mention all B1G is just silly.    I expect big years from both players as they will both be expected to be key leaders of this team, and don't have to defer to Dmac or anybody else.

Brandon probably should be at the very least honorable mention. But I don't have any problem with DJ not being on any list.  Anyone who watched him play last year should agree.  Just because a player is starting for his 3rd straight year doesn't mean they should be on a list like this.  Right now he is not one of the top 20 players or 8 guards in the Big Ten.  Do I think he has the potential? Absolutely.  But he needs to show it on the court.  He was a better player as a freshman than he was as a sophomore.  That being said, I hope he gets his confidence back and becomes a solid player for us this season!

Amne to that...DJ was a pretty big disappointment for us last year..and it hurt the team not being able to rely on him for much after such a good freshman year.  BP showed some real good flashes of brilliance last year but was inconsistent...he certainly is one of the more potentially dynamic guys in the league.  He should have gotten some sort of mention.
Otherwise, we really don't have anyone that has done enough or comes in highly touted enough to warrant consideration.
