Part of the Red Sox plan.  Leak everything through the Boston Globe, get excitement built up publically for Ricketts and then before finishing things off ask for big compensation.

Red Sox do not want him back.  He has warn out his welcome with John Henry and Larry Lucchino.  Cubs slow play it and the Red Sox would have cut him loose with a comp package.

Tough spot for Ricketts though.  Not getting Theo means whoever else we get is second choice.  Not the way a new GM wants to come in to turn around an organization. Ricketts managed to keep the Hendry dismissal on the down low for more than a month.  He needed to keep this QT too.

that's just media drama...there is no way something doesn't get done after all the news on this.

why in the world would Boston want a guy back running their team who they clearly don't want anymore and its been blown up all over the news for the last week?

something will get done...Boston is probably just sour about it all, they will come around in the next few days, something reasonable will get worked out

Sounds like the Red Sox are stuck on getting Brett Jackson or Trey McNutt back in return.  The other possibility would be Casher, or a combo of these 3.

In the end the Sox will probably get one of these guys.

It will not be a major league player and if they give up a top prospect they are dumber than a box of hammers.

Was reading a story yesterday about these kind of "trades" and MLB does not like there to be major league players involved. They prefer it to be cash only or prospects.

The Boston Globe notes the Red Sox have interest in some of the few attractive prospects from the Cubs system, like Brett Jackson, Matt Szczur, Alberto Cabrera, Jay Jackson and Trey McNutt. The Globe has also reported the Red Sox like major-league utility player Jeff Baker, but he alone wouldn't be enough. In that same entry, it is noted that the Red Sox would love the Cubs to take John Lackey and his gaudy contract, but that is very unlikely.
