Go Blue!!!! Michigan wins the Club Lacrosse Championship pretty much every year. They've been trying to become a varsity sport for awhile.
They are pretty nasty. We played them each of the past two years and got smoked. I wouldn't say they "win the championship pretty much every year". They've won it the past two years, but those are their only two....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men's_Collegiate_Lacrosse_Association#MCLA_Division_I_Championship_HistoryThey have been trying to go varsity for awhile. There are a combination of issues, with a combination of funding and Title IX. Here's a pretty good writeup if ur interested:
http://www.michigandaily.com/content/making-varsity?page=0,0Is the issue funding? I see like Syracuse, Virginia, JHU, on espn every year but that isn't club correct?
Yea, those are varsity teams. For the most part, if you watch it on TV, its likely to be varsity. Club on TV has happened a few times (Fighting Illini vs Michigan last year was televised in Chicago), but its pretty rare.
BTW, Illinois currently down 7-4 at halftime against #8 Michigan State.
